(This is temporarily just a one-on-one between Coyotestar and Leafpelt.) It had been half a moon since Coyotewhisker, now Coyotestar, had been unexpectedly named leader of a Clan he was destined to lead. A Clan of which did not yet exist. The two cats had taken their time coming to grips with such an uncertain future, questioning everything the tom’s deceased sister had said. Maybe she was just trying to punish her brother for abandoning the Clan she would never have the privilege to grow old in. Or perhaps she simply wanted to drive him back, and to do so, she was attempting to scare him away with the thought of an unbearable amount of responsibility. Though… That didn’t seem like Crowpaw. Leafpelt may not have been close to the late apprentice, but she had known the black she-cat nonetheless, and that didn’t sound like something she would do. Chances were that she was telling the honest truth, despite the fact that the calico female didn’t want to accept such a fate. Leafpelt now sat peering out of an old badger set that the pair had been staying in since a few days after Coyotestar’s naming ceremony. It had been dug into the base of a majestic oak tree, from which hung moss that reached down from the branches above to tickle the ground. They swayed as a breeze blew lightly through the canopy of leaves, the site like dancing waves. The she-cat closed her eyes and took a deep breath, relishing in the peaceful moment as it stilled her thoughts. This place was beautiful…

A mouse in his jaws and a jay by his feet, Coyotestar watched a dove flutter from branch to branch, as if taunting him. It stopped with its back turned, cooing. The tabby tom spat the mouse next to the jay and settled down to watch the ignorant bird. He was just about to make a move on the feathered prey when a large hawk slammed into the unsuspecting dove, sending cream feathers everywhere. Coyotestar sat up, smirking at the dove's lack of intelligence. The hawk turned his yellow eyes on the tom from he had landed, the dove's lifeless form gripped in his talons. It bobbed it's head once and the tom took that as his cue to leave the predator with his meal. Coyotestar picked up the mouse and jay and plodded back to where he and the she-cat, Leafpelt, had been staying. The sounds of nature surrounded him, from the rustle of leaves and to the scurrying of prey and songs of wood birds. This place would certainly make a good home. Home. The tom ducked under low laying branches as he reached the small clearing at the base of an ancient oak tree. Now this would make a great camp. Plenty of room for cats to walk around, space for dens, and it was secluded enough to protect those within the camp. If it ever becomes a camp.. Coyotestar spat the kill at the mouth of an old badger set and meowed loudly, "Leafpelt! If your hungry, I have some fresh-kill for you."

Leafpelt's ears twitched as the sound of approaching footsteps tickled their tufts. Her green-tinted yellow eyes were hidden behind the female's lids as she dozed inside the den. Coyotestar had offered to hunt for the both of them that morning, and after her little meditation session, the she-cat had become relaxed and decided to take advantage of it. The calico had stepped back into the den where she now lay, waiting for her companions return, but never actually sleeping. However, her wakefulness didn't keep her from jumping as the tom-cat called her name.
"What have I told you about shouting!?" The feline hissed as she stood and shook out her pelt before padding to the den's mouth. A light scowl adorned her features as she looked at Coyotestar, "I may owe you a free meal, but that doesn't mean I can't feed you your own tail when I do." She then looked down at the two pieces of kill, glancing between the rodent and the bird while she tried to decide which to choose. "If I pick the mouse, may I still keep the feathers for my nest?" The warrior mewed without even giving thought to whether or not her friend had already chosen which he wanted. He had been the one to catch them after all.

Coyotestar smirked, he rather liked annoying the calico, considering she was the only cat he had to annoy. "I'm sorry, I forgot." The tom moved himself around the two meals, pawing at the mouse. He looked at Leafpelt, "Maybe. I'll tell you what, who ever eats the bird gives the feathers to the other?" He then picked up the jay, moved a tail length away to where a sun beam was filtering through the mossy canopy and laid down to eat his meal. "Then again", he glanced at the she-cat with a sly grin, "maybe the one who catches it should get the feathers."

"Well don't forget." The she-cat teasingly snapped just before Coyotestar picked up the jay and stepped to the side to eat. She picked up the mouse and followed him, her rear just barely pressed up against his. "Well I never eat birds, so I guess that means I'll always get feathers" The cat mewed with a smirk as she placed a small, white paw on the lifeless body before her. "It's whichever, I don't really care. We practically sleep in the same nest anyway." With that, Leafpelt bent down and bit into the mouse.
It had started to get cold, but it's center still held some warmth. It was nice to be well fed once again. The terrain they had been in before was depleted and unkind, but this place held so much. It was a gift from Starclan, and a well timed one at that. Though, was it where they should stay, or did their ancestors have another place in mind? That is, if they even had a place in mind at all.

The tom set into his meal, vaguely ignoring the she-cat as she settled next to him. He delicately plucked the blue-black feathers of the jay and placed them into a pile for later use. He rather liked the smaller members of the feathered prey. They seemed to have a more tender taste than the larger ravens or ducks. Other wise, he favored small grass snakes over other fresh-kill. Not only did he enjoy their taste but they were also fun to hunt. His ears pricked at the she-cat's last comments. "Yes, but hopefully not for long", he mewed through a mouth full of feathers. "I pray to-", Coyotestar paused,"I hope to find some cats -loners- to build a clan with." He turned his yellowed gaze on the patched coat feline beside him. "Just as Crowpaw had said."

Leafpelt swallowed the piece of mouse that was in her mouth before speaking, "Oh, I see, you don't like sharing a nest with me. You're the one that kicks." She teased. Though, the she-cat paused for a moment as she mulled the tom's words over in her mind. He had stopped himself from saying Starclan... That's right, Starclan had abandoned them just as they had abandoned their Clan. Who did they have to pray to? Crowpaw? The thought tickled the she-warrior for a moment, her whiskers twitching once, but she quickly pushed the thought away. They would prove themselves. They would get Starclan back.
"Well, I was thinking about exploring the territory further if you don't mind. We passed that creek coming here, remember? Maybe it's good for fishing." Leafpelt bent down and took another small bite of her meal, her eyes still on Coyotestar as she waited for his reply.

The tom tilted his tabby head at Leafpelt's question, though it sounded more like she was asking permission to him. Could that be because he was now leader? Or was it all in his head? He simply shrugged, ignoring his own thoughts. "Sure, I don't see why not. We both need to have a better look around, actually. This place seems to good to be true." Coyotestar went back to plucking the feathers from his meal before enjoying the tender meat. He quickly glanced at the she-cat before mewing, "I now where we can get more feathers, and maybe I can get some herbs or cobwebs. You can never know what might happen out here, alone." His mind drifted back to the hawk. It was a small one, a juvenile more like, but a hawk non-the-less. And then there was this old badger set. Though it wasn't occupied now, perhaps there was a badger lurking further in the woods. Or foxes, and adders, and.. He Shook himself to stop the flow of thoughts swirling about in his head. The tabby feline looked back at the she-cat next to him, his yellow eyes laced with sudden worry, "Just, be careful, okay?" If something happened to this rather beautiful warrior, Coyotestar would be alone. And he couldn't bare that thought.

The female absentmindedly flicked her ears in response to Coyotestar's words, not really taking much notice of his worry as she finished off the last few scraps of her meal. She looked down at her filthy paws before swiping her tongue about her maw, tasting traces of blood and fur still clinging to her feminine features. "Where do you plan on going for your quest to find feathers?" Leafpelt asked, her gaze still caught on those soiled paws before her. The she-cat began to groom herself as she let the subconscious thought of what path she would take to retrace her steps back to the creek, but quickly brought her focus back to the male with a quick glance to assure him she was listening.

Coyotestar Finished nibbling on his meal before grooming himself in the sun. He glanced at the calico she-cat for a second. "When I was hunting a saw a hawk catch a dove. A few of the feathers were scattered in the process. So there could be more around there once the hawk had finished his feasting." He continued to groom a tuft on his flank before saying, "And I figured I might as well look around the berry brush for cobwebs. It shouldn't be that far from c- here." The tabby tom sat on his haunches, and peered around at the oak tree and surrounding foliage. Was this to be their camp? Well, before it became much, it would need to to cleaned up a bit. And they would need to find some cats willing to follow Starclan. He twitched his at the thought of trying to teach grown cats the ways of the clan.

The calico she-cat sat up as she licked a now clean paw before bringing it over her ear followed by her maw. "Well," the female mewed between licks, "You know me... I never mind... More feathers." She switched paws and started on the other side before finishing, "And cobwebs... Would, uh... Be good."
Once finished, Leafpelt stood with a stretch and a flick of her short tail. "I'll try not to be too long, but you know where to find me if I you get start to get worried. Anything you want me to look for while I'm gone? Or something to collect? I'm not exactly familiar with most herbs, but I know what marigold looks like. I also know what death berries look like, but that won't help us much." The she-cat finished with a slight chuckle and a twitch of her whiskers.

Coyotestar snorted at the she-cat's humor. He found it ill placed considering all they had gone through this past moon, but decided to overlook it by adding, "Well, at least I know you won't accidentally poison me. As for herbs, I haven't the slightest clue. I wasn't trained to be a medicine cat after all." With that he stood and shook himself before grooming a shoulder. "Moss", the tom suddenly blurted out. "We should get some moss, for nests and things. It should be easy to find along the creek." Before waiting to hear the she-cat's reply, Coyotestar sluggishly padded out of the 'camp' and headed back into the woods. His mind clouded once again by thoughts of the past and uncertain future.

Leafpelt watched as the tom walked away to do as he had planned. She gave a lazy yawn before standing up and stretching; first her front half, then her back. Well, she might as well get on with her duties too. After all, she now had a small list of things to do; collect moss, scan the creek for... What was it again she was doing?
Sitting back down with a serious face and head full of thoughts, the calico feline tried to remember what all she had tasked for herself. "Oh for Starclan's sake!" she hissed in frustration. Maybe all she was going there to do was have a look around? Yes? No? Letting out another hiss, the feline gave up, accepting that all she really needed to do was scan the area. Oh, and get moss. She mustn't forget that moss.
